چکیده

We present a uni ed anisotropic geometric di usion PDEmodel for smoothing (fairing) out noise both in triangulated 2-manifold surface meshes in IR and functions de ned on these surface meshes, while enhancing curve features on both by careful choice of an anisotropic di usion tensor. We combine the C limit representation of Loop's subdivision for triangular surface meshes and vector functions on the surface mesh with the established di usion model to arrive at a discretized version of the di usion problem in the spatial direction. The time direction discretization then leads to a sparse linear system of equations. Iteratively, solving the sparse linear system, yields a sequence of faired (smoothed) meshes as well as faired functions

Reconstructing Surfaces Using Anisotropic Basis Functions

Point sets obtained from computer vision techniques are often noisy and non-uniform. We present a new method of surface reconstruction that can handle such data sets using anisotropic basis functions. Our reconstruction algorithm draws upon the work in variational implicit surfaces for constructing smooth and seamless 3D surfaces. Implicit functions are often formulated as a sum of weighted bas...

Orientation Diiusions

100 Orientation di usions P. Perona Abstract|Di usions are useful for image processing and computer vision because they provide a convenient way of smoothing noisy data, of analyzing images at multiple scales, and of enhancing discontinuities. A number of di usions of image brightness have been de ned and studied so far; they may be applied to scalar and vector-valued quantities that are natura...

Visualization of Principal Curvature Directions by Anisotropic Diffusion

Anisotropic diffusion is known to be a powerful tool in image processing. It enables the smoothing of initially noisy images while still retaining, respectively sharpening edges and enhancing features. Here recent results in the context of vector field visualization are expanded to non Euclidean domains. The aim is to graphically represent vector field data on two dimensional surfaces in an int...

Spline Smoothing on Surfaces

We present a method for estimating functions on topologically and/or geometrically complex surfaces from possibly noisy observations. Our approach is an extension of spline smoothing, using a Þnite element method. The paper has a substantial tutorial component: we start by reviewing smoothness measures for functions deÞned on surfaces, simplicial surfaces and differentiable structures on such s...
